This module is available as part of the Shoulder Academy membership at a discounted price.

This module covers the pathoaetiology, natural history, diagnosis and non-surgical management of rotator cuff-related conditions. Lessons in this module begin with the diagnosis of subacromial pain and are then divided according to evidence for specific management of rotator cuff related conditions.

This module contains 5 lessons:

1. Diagnosis of Subacromial Pain

The ability to first differentiate the subacromial region as the source of pain is the first step in the diagnostic process for symptomatic subacromial pathology.

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Definition of subacromial pain
  • Clinical diagnosis of subacromial pain
  • Imaging diagnosis of subacromial pain
  • Imaging indications and interpretation

 Study time: 2-3 hrs (approx.)

2. Atraumatic Rotator Cuff-Related Pain

Atraumatic, rotator cuff-related pain (RCRP) encompasses a number of subacromial conditions that are managed non-operatively.

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Imaging diagnosis
  • Non-surgical management
  • Referral criteria

Study time: 3-4 hrs (approx

3. Traumatic Rotator Cuff Tears

Identification and appropriate referral for orthopaedic review is important for traumatic rotator cuff tears.

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Classification
  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Imaging diagnosis
  • Non-surgical management
  • Referral criteria

Study time: 3-4 hrs (approx.)

4. Massive/Inoperable Rotator Cuff Tears

Massive or inoperable rotator cuff tears require specific rehabilitation, and many patients regain good upper limb function.

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Classification
  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Imaging diagnosis
  • Non-surgical management and specific rehabilitation
  • Referral criteria

Study time: 3-4 hrs (approx.)

5. Calcific Tendinopathy

Calcific tendinopathy is a cell-mediated process that may be self-limiting, or may require specific intervention.

In this lesson, we cover:

  • Pathoaetiology
  • Natural history
  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Imaging diagnosis
  • Non-surgical management
  • Referral criteria

Study time: 3-4 hrs (approx.)
