This online course provides a comprehensive approach to the assessment and physical management of people with thoracic spine and rib cage disorders.


Introduction:

The introductory module sets the scene for the use of physical treatments (exercise and manual therapy) for thoracic and rib disorders and covers classification and risk factors, red flags, yellow flags and imaging. You will learn the evidence for manual therapy in thoracic disorders and how we can improve on how these forms of treatment. Other modules in this course cover:

Thoracic spine and rib cage examination:

How to evaluate the thoracic spine and rib cage, including evaluation of thoracic dynamic control, thoracic specific movements, combined movements, and segmental movement and pain provocation tests.

Management of thoracic spine and rib cage disorders:

We cover exercise rehabilitation and manual therapy for thoracic and rib disorders, including determining when a manual therapy procedure might be appropriate, mechanisms, safety and evidence for manual therapy. We present range of manual therapy options for different clinical presentations and discuss regional interdependence.

Director of Manual Concepts

Dr Toby Hall is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists), graduating in 1985 with an MSc in 1996 and PhD in 2010.

He holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University. Toby has presented at many conferences, published more than 20 book chapters and published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles relating to neural pain disorders, cervicogenic headache and other topics.

He has co-authored 3 books “Mobilisation with Movement, The Art and the Science” & The Mulligan Concept of Manual Therapy: Textbook of Techniques” in 1st & 2nd Edn.

He regularly reviews for many journals, is on the international advisory panel of the Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Practice, and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy.

Director of Manual Concepts

Kim Robinson has developed a reputation as a leading figure in manual therapy education. He was formerly a lecturer and clinical teacher on the Postgraduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy programme at Curtin University of Technology for many years before establishing Manual Concepts.

He now conducts a variety of lectures and clinical programmes around the world. Kim is an active member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association and the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists Association of Australia. Kim is an internationally accredited teacher of the Mulligan Concept.

His research interests and publications include manual diagnosis, cervicogenic headache, neck pain and the application of the Mulligan Concept. Kim has taught manual therapy in over 35 countries. These courses are well received by physiotherapists who have a wide range of backgrounds and manual therapy experience.
