Dr Angela Cadogan and Dr Margaret Potter are recruiting up to 30 mentors for a pilot study investigating the benefits to both new graduates and mentors of a structured mentoring programme for physiotherapists in their first year of practice.

If you:

  • Are currently registered to practice physiotherapy in New Zealand or Australia,
  • Have a genuine interest in facilitating learning of new graduates,
  • Are available for 4 hours of mentor training and 4x 1 hour mentoring sessions between Feb-May 2022

FAQ

  • Is there any cost for the training?

    Mentor training is provided free by the TELL Centre.

  • How much time is involved?

    We estimate a total of approx. 10 hours will be required for mentors. This includes: training (4 hours), mentoring sessions (4x 1 hour sessions) and 1-2 hours of questionnaires and focus group follow-up.

  • How many mentees will I have?

    You can mentor 1, 2 or 3 mentees. Your choice.

  • When is this happening?

    Mentor training will occur in the first week of February 2022 and the mentoring sessions will occur monthly in Feb, March, April and May 2022. There will be a focus group session in June 2022.

  • Do I get paid?

    No payment is provided for being part of this study.

  • What will be done with the results?

    The results will be analysed and published. If the programme shows benefits to mentors and mentees we will look to roll this out as an ongoing service.

Dr Angela Cadogan

Physiotherapy Specialist (Musculoskeletal).

Angela is a NZ registered Physiotherapy Specialist (Musculoskeletal) with a Ph.D in Musculoskeletal Diagnostics from AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand (2012) (shoulder sub-specialty). Based in Christchurch, she works as a clinical consultant in her own private practice specialising in the diagnosis and management of shoulder pain.

Angela also works in an Orthopaedic Triage and Assessment role (Shoulder Service) with the Canterbury District Health Board. Angela has an ongoing research interest in shoulder conditions, has many publications on the topic, has been an invited keynote speaker at many national and international shoulder conferences and is Associate Editor at JOSPT (Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy).

Angela has been teaching courses on the diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of shoulder conditions for over 10 years and is passionate about upskilling other physiotherapists and improving capability of the physiotherapy workforce to meet the needs of the changing healthcare system. Dr Margaret Potter

Dr Margaret Potter has a background as a physiotherapist and more than 20-years of experience in both the healthcare and education sectors with expertise in staff development, leadership, mentoring and coaching. She is Director of the TELL Centre which offers the award-winning Teaching on the Run Program and is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. She enjoys working with individuals, groups, and organisations to optimise communication, teamwork, and workplace-based performance. Margaret is a sought-after entertaining presenter who will engage, inform and extend participants with an interactive approach
