Muscle Force Testing in Physical Medicine
Part 1

The paradigm shift in muscle force testing will be briefly introduced and and some of the strength assessments used in current practice reviewed. You will be reminded about the various contraction modes and types available for muscle force testing. Thereafter the remainder of the presentation will address the knowledge base around force-time data with a particular emphasis on impulse and rate of force development.
Backward walking and running are unique forms of locomotion with injury-resistance and performance benefits. A key feature is minimal stretch-shorten cycle involvement, which maximises overload of the contractile component.
