Instructor Dr Mark Laslett

Physiotherapy Specialist Musculoskeletal

Mark has over 50 years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal practice. He completed his PhD in “Diagnostic accuracy of the clinical examination compared to available reference standards in chronic low back pain patients” at the University of Linköping, Sweden in 2001 and in 2014 he became the first Specialist Physiotherapist registered in New Zealand.

His academic and research interest is in the theory and practice of diagnostics, has over 40 publications, contributed chapters to two multi-author books and published his own text Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy: The Upper Limb in 1996.

He became a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Physiotherapy in 2007, was made an honorary Life Member of Physiotherapy New Zealand in September 2014, and of the New Zealand Manipulative Physiotherapists Association in 2015.

He continues to practice as a consultant clinician in Christchurch, NZ and remains active in clinical research.

Instructor Dayle Shackel

M.Phty (Sports), Dip Phys.

Lead High Performance Physiotherapist and Medical Manager NZ Cricket.

Dayle manages the team of international and domestic physiotherapists for both men's and women’s cricket at NZC and is involved in development of NZ Crickets’ U19’s, NZA and winter training squads. Dayle was the touring physiotherapist for the BlackCaps for 10 years and has been working in the NZ Cricket High Performance Centre for the last 22 years.

Dayle has worked in private practice in Christchurch and in the UK. Dayle has published several papers on fast bowling injuries, lumbar stress fractures and cricket injury surveillance.

Instructor Mr Rowan Schouten

Orthopaedic Surgeon (Spine)

Mr Rowan Schouten is an orthopaedic spine surgeon based in Christchurch, NZ. He completed fellowships in spinal surgery at Royal Perth Hospital (2010) and Vancouver General Hospital, Canada (2010/2011). In 2011 he was awarded the AOSpine North American (AOSNA) Fellows research award at the 9th Annual Fellows Forum.

In 2011 he was appointed a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Christchurch and Burwood Hospitals where his practice includes the treatment of all spinal pathology including degenerative conditions, spinal cord injuries, fractures and tumours.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and a full member of New Zealand Orthopaedic Association (NZOA), New Zealand Orthopaedic Spine Society (NZOSS), and North American Spine Society (NASS).
